Welcome to my Blog

A bit about my background and the purpose of this blog.

Thanks for reading! The purpose of this blog is simply to record my thoughts on potential investment ideas in real-time. I find investing to be most rewarding when I share ideas. I meet more like-minded investors from many different backgrounds, with unique insights that accelerate my own learning and understanding of the world. Please do reach out if anything I cover here compels you to do so.

At the start of my investment career, I was determined to do one thing: apply principles of value investing in global markets. This pursuit led me to move back to Asia after finishing up college in 2009. I cut my teeth analyzing Chinese companies that were listing in the U.S. via reverse mergers; ultimately a waste of time financially as 99.9% were frauds, but the experience gave me a valuable framework for spotting BS. In 2011, I moved to Hong Kong without a plan, and lucked into analyst job that gave me an opportunity to continue my pursuit with more resources. Over the next six years, I met with management of hundreds of public companies in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, HK, China, and Vietnam, across a wide range of industries. A close up look at what works and what doesn’t has helped me evolve my strategy over time, incorporating the best components of deep value, high growth, shareholder activism, and technology investing strategies while staying flexible and connecting the dots between people and markets.

I am currently a private investor, and my portfolio tends to be highly concentrated; at times I may only hold one stock. Unless explicitly stated, I am not a shareholder in the companies I discuss. That being said, I will generally only discuss stocks worthy of discussion, by which I mean stocks that I think are likely to generate exceptional absolute returns over a 3-5 year period. I plan to keep track of the relative performance of my picks over time and give periodic updates, and depending on the results of this exercise I may gradually transition to a more diversified strategy in my own portfolio.
